Imperfect is Perfect

So many times I speak to clients who refer to perfection:

“I want it to be perfect before I share it” or “It has to be perfect before I can call it done”

So what is perfection, really? Of course, there are so many definitions, but what is it for you? Is it making sure everything is spelled right? Making sure nothing is out of place? Or is it an excuse for not going to the next level?

I remember when I launched this website. I honestly have no idea what a perfect website looks like and I do believe I will make improvements as I go along. But if I had decided to wait until it was perfect, I wouldn’t have gone live. Ever. Because I don’t know what perfect is!!

If you find yourself in a perfectionist state of mind, what do you think is the reason behind it? Are you afraid of something? What is it? Dig in. It may be the not-enoughness gremlin. (it’s not good enough, I don’t know enough) See if you can break the habit one project at a time.

Start small, like not cleaning behind all the furniture when you invite friends over. (this was me about 20 years ago when I had the energy to care if people could sense I had dust bunnies living behind the couch). What would starting small look like to you?

Imperfection is where we are as we are growing and learning. Remind yourself that “this is what it looks like as I’m learning, creating, building, and becoming the best version of myself.” You are a magnificent work in progress.

And that’s perfect.
