The other day was one of those insanely long days where I”m not home for almost 16 hours. They are fewer and fewer so now I appreciate my honed prepping skills from the days when they were more common!
I write a list the night before of what I need to remember so I’m not stressed in the morning. (Waking up stressed about getting ready is not a great way to start the day!) On the list I include the items that are important, including the computer, my meals, and change of clothes. It’s almost like packing for a trip. There, of course, are things I could buy if I needed to but that means my prep was a fail and I can’t have that! This is a personal game for me. Fun has to be incorporated into the day and as odd as it sounds, this is fun for me!
Anyway, off I go with my arms loaded up because I don’t want to have to go back for anything ( where’s my coffee mug???) and away I power walk into the busyness that is my life as a teacher, coach and musician.
All is going well. I have finished my morning routine and am sitting down to lunch of salad and fruit. I open my lunch box and take out my salad and dressing and look for my fork. There’s no fork. Oh no. BUT there is a spoon! The rest of the week many lunches are yogurt so naturally my lunch packing brain was on the wrong day!
Now, I have done alot of work on myself over the years. Life coaching has allowed me to be more mindful and not get as easily upset when something is perceived as “going wrong”
So, of course, I laughed out loud!
I can make this work and in fact, I think a spoon was better because I tend to chop a lot of veggies in my salads. It was just fine. Later I was thinking how I still carry plastic gloves from the COVID-contact-concern times. I could have eaten the salad with my hands if I needed to.
I didn’t let it ruin my day like it might have not that long ago. I found the humor in it and the rest of the day ran very smoothly- well, as smoothly as a busy day of people and traffic can go!
Find the humor in things every day. Step out of the “going wrong” mode and laugh!! You will feel lighter, happier and you might even help the people around you to see your perspective more!
And just to be safe, pack a spork. Do they even make those anymore?
