Beginning a New Chapter

If you have ever experienced change in your life, and we all have both consciously and unconsciously, you might realize how much your life has changed no matter where you are now.

Some of it was natural, like going into the next grade at school or needing bigger shoes, or moving house when you were young.  You may have thought of it as exciting or fun! Or it may have been stressful to throw away your favorite sneakers, meet a new teacher or to leave your friends and favorite places.

And how about going off to college or trade school, leaving home for a new job or a new partner, or what about becoming pregnant and having a baby?

What did you feel? Were you excited? Scared? Uncertain?  But you did it anyway because life doesn’t stand still and wait for you.

Now for those of us who are older and are ready to begin a new chapter, there may be many reasons for change. For example, retirement, moving to be closer to children or family, medical needs that require downsizing or a more manageable environment, or maybe finding a place that frees you from the memories of your previous work life, feels safer or gives you more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, learn new things or be around like-minded people.

Change is natural and perspective can be the most important element in all of it.

Take a few minutes when you can and think of some of the major changes in your life that have brought you to where you are today. You are where you are because of the choices you have made. Good or bad, right or wrong don’t matter anymore because you are here.  Letting go of the emotions associated with change, especially the negative ones, can free you in massive ways to move on and allow the new experiences in.

Remember that most people get to the end of their lives regretting what they didn’t do, not what they did.

You got this! As Snoopy would say “Cowabunga!”

Make it a great day, life and new chapter!
