My Money Story Pt.3

In the previous pages I shared with you my struggles and worries about money as well as my habits of thought. Habits can be changed and that can lead to better outcomes going forward.

Building better habits is something I help clients do every week and what better place to start than my own life!

After choosing to be self-reliant, I noticed the struggle still existed. Even though I had begun to believe I could be on my own, the little voice of ego whispered to me daily “Are you sure you can do this? What if there isn’t enough?” It was stressful and distracting. I was only working to make money, there was no enjoyment. I felt driven to stay ahead of the bills and not to focus on my purpose.

So I decided to study the Law of Attraction. It’s gotten a lot of bad publicity, but hear me out. The most important thing to remember about any changes you make in your life is that they take awareness, habit forming (and habit breaking), and practice.

The Law of Attraction is an interesting concept because it can go both ways. You attract what you think about, so be careful what you think about. When I was thinking “Will I run out of money this month?”, I got evidence that, yes, I will. But when I started to believe that I always have enough, I started getting proof of that. And I have gotten evidence of that over and over again throughout the years to the point that it is FUN to see what will happen to bring in prosperity! If I see a big bill coming, I don’t worry about it anymore. I fill my days with positive thoughts and gratitude with a little curiosity mixed in.

Essentially, I changed my attitude around money using tools that worked for me in the form of letting go and getting out of my own way. By changing my belief system to one of trust and detachment, I have been able to live a life more purposeful and for growth rather than for survival.

I am still a work in progress but I have come to realize a few things that help me whenever I stumble a little and maybe these will help you too.

  1. You get what you think about, but you also get what you feel so make sure when you say you have enough of anything, you work on truly believing it.
  2. Money comes and goes, but you never get the time back. Do what you love, spend time with the people you care about, and be kind to yourself. At the end of the day, money is a tool, not a goal.
  3. Be grateful every day for all the things in your life. Everything that is in your life is there because of who you have become. You are the creator of your life. You have put things in it and you can take things out. It’s your choice.
  4. You grow until you die. You can always make changes and adjust your life to suit where you are on your path. There is a saying ” People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime” It’s not just people that do this. You don’t have to hang onto the past if it no longer serves you. But if it still works for your own growth then keep it. An example would be victims. They can grow by sharing their story to help others, they just don’t have to BE that person anymore.

PRACTICE: Say “thank you” when you pay a bill, find a parking spot, get a lead for a job or even get a green light. Focus on what’s going right in your day and write down or reflect on at least one success every day. The true change comes within yourself when you change what you focus on. And watch your money story start to change. Don’t make it the reason you get up every day, whether you have very little money or are a millionaire. Your true purpose is what you give through what you do.
