Money and Time

I met a friend last week and after catching up a little and talking about what’s going on in the world, we moved to a discussion about money and time. She told me how expensive a meal out had been and how many hours of work it would take to earn the money she spent. So naturally, I asked her about the meal. Did she enjoy it? What did she order? Was she in good company? Was the service good? She said yes to all of those questions.

When you don’t have money, it feels like you are existing to pay bills and fix broken things. You feel like you are always behind and can’t afford to work less. Everything you earn, you give away. This is why many people don’t feel good about money and yet, they feel trapped in a cycle of only earning money to pay someone else.

When you don’t have enough time, you feel drained and struggle to relax when there is time and the only time you can claim is when you get sick or downsized, and then you are worried about your health or what will happen next.

So which is more important to you right now: time or money? What would you do with more time or more money?

Of course, money is important. We need it to be comfortable and pay for things that sustain us. But time is important too, so we can relax our minds and bodies, and refresh ourselves with leisure, personal space, and outings with friends and families.

Consider these questions:

What is enough? How could you think differently about money and time? What are the positive things about money and time? If you could focus on the benefits of having more time and/or money, what would they be?

You are in charge, you really are! And focusing on what you have instead of what you don’t have is a great place to start.

In the next blog, I will share one of my own money stories with you. In the meantime, consider the questions above. You always have a choice about how to feel even if you can’t take action immediately.

Make it a great month!
