Pay attention!

My 16-year-old cat is doing great, except for the puking, random poops that fall from her outside of the box, and needing to eat right next to the sink where I fix her food. I love her so much so I do what I can to keep her healthy and happy. My home has become a bit of a minefield but I just had to adjust my habits.

No more walking without looking down. Sometimes things happen in the middle of the night and just putting your feet on the floor in the morning can come with hazards! If I’m gone all day, I make sure I turn on lights as I walk through the rooms to avoid having to rinse out my socks or slip on a feline accident. Translate into daily living? Be intentional. Watch where you are going and have a plan to get there.

Things happen. Some days are easy, no puke or other messes to clean up. And then there are the bad days of hair ball back up. And it’s never in one place. Nope. She has to keep walking and deposit multiple little puddles, most of which are insignificant and you might find those first, knowing the mother load is somewhere. There it is! I just stepped in it. Translate into daily living? Be ready for the unexpected! Generally, these don’t have to affect your mood. You just observe, clean it up or just avoid it and let the next person clean it up. But you can at least throw a paper towel over it.

Life comes with detours. One thing about having an older pet is to enjoy the quiet moments and good days. She won’t be with me that much longer so we live each day for hugs, playing and occasional treats. Translate into daily living? Live each day for hugs, playing and occasional treats.

Enjoy all the moments that are happy. Know there are bumps in the road but they don’t have to be anything more than that. Celebrate every day.

And just clean up the puke when it happens and move on.

Meow.
