The holidays are a time when we all think of our loved ones, enjoy happy memories, and give what can, even if it’s just a “Thank You” and a smile.
Personally, I’ve made it a habit to do this year-round and it just makes the holiday season even brighter because my joy, happiness, and giving spirit don’t require faking it.
What I have done more of is giving to myself, not just kindness, but personal space. I am a fairly private person and I like my alone time to rest and recharge. There was a time when I felt guilty if I didn’t give all my time and energy away and it was difficult to enjoy my space if I wasn’t obligated to something or someone because of that guilt.
When I realized I was happier and healthier, and frankly, a little easier to get along with, when I allowed myself some time away from people and obligations, it became a necessary part of my life.
Now, I carve out at least half a day somewhere in my week (more if possible) to do what I want to do with no direct interactions with people. It has been a wonderful experiment and a necessity for my health and happiness.
And it makes the holidays much more joyful and beautiful.
If you notice your stress level is taking away your holiday enjoyment, what could you do to take care of you? When you feel good, you pass it on.
Take care of the one person who matters most and everyone will benefit.
Happy Holidays!
