Do Something Different

I am going through a medical challenge that has me focusing differently at the moment. It was an unexpected diagnosis this past summer. Life threatening? Perhaps, but so can driving a car, skydiving, swimming in the ocean, taking a shower, etc. I could go on.

Life has its challenges and we get to choose how to think and feel about them and then what to do with the information. There are those who will keep it inside and not share because of fear of judgment or appearing vulnerable. Some of us might make it our new story and tell everyone we see how miserable our lives are now that this happened with the intention of them agreeing with us. Others may hide from it by distracting themselves with food, alcohol, or Netflix. And then there are the ones who decide that this is important enough to share in whatever way they will reach the people who need to hear it, will benefit from it, and/or will be inspired by it.

What would you do? And why? What is your intention when you share with others? Knowing why we do what we do will allow us to set a goal and achieve it.

There is a series of steps that come with every challenge and being aware of these will give you a chance to find peace if that’s what you are looking for. It’s also a chance to get to know yourself on a whole new level. After all, you are here now. This is now part of your journey and every journey is filled with opportunity.

Do something different than you have ever done before. Here’s a chance to discover more about your own abilities and strengths.

Yesterday I was told I should keep it to myself. That felt really bad to me. Why would I do that? As I have become more self-aware, I notice that if I talk through something that feels bad, I take away its power. (And, yes, I have my own life coach) But even more than that, if I share and can connect with one person who might benefit from what I have to share, I have made a difference.

For me, the “something different” in this particular challenge is sharing without being afraid to be vulnerable. There is power in opening up and letting go. What might it be for you? Please share your thoughts in the comments. I would love to hear from you.
