Making Choices

I often have that feeling of overwhelm that comes with too many things on my schedule plus that last minute email I just got to help someone with a project or something. My list is my control and that last minute thing seems to tip my control cart over.

I don’t have to response that way. I can make a conscious choice to relax and just take care of it. But the gremlin in my mind is a really good screamer and will cajole me into feeling miserable because “it all has to get done NOW!” The Worst feeling in the world.

I want to control my list!! Is that really true? I mean, I wrote the thing so I am already in control. It’s that surprise that changes everything. Why? Probably because I didn’t expect it and that sends the lack of control feeling towards me like a child coming at me with chocolate fingers outstretched.

So I work to consciously be aware of the moment that feeling comes up and what thoughts come with it. Once I have a mental map of what feels out of control, I can choose to let go of the NOW feeling where the overwhelm lives.

Of yeah, and taking a moment to breathe deep never hurts either.
